Bancontact

Bancontact is the local payment scheme of Belgium, operated jointly by the country's major banks. Buyers pay with their Bancontact card or via the Bancontact / Payconiq mobile app, authenticating inside their bank's app or with the physical card and reader. Bancontact accounts for the majority of Belgian e-commerce, so it is effectively non-optional for merchants serving that market. Settlement runs on bank-rail timing; refunds are issued through the same scheme.
